Basic Fantasy RPG: Character Creation

For more information see Core Rules: Character Creation

Steps

  1. Start with an empty character sheet.

  2. Roll 3d6 six times (one for each attribute) and assign them as desired. If you are unhappy with your rolls, ask the GM.

  3. Choose a race for your character. Note that most races have attribute and/or class restrictions. If you are not happy with the restrictions, ask the GM. Make sure to write down the class's special abilities.

  4. Choose a class for your character. Make sure to write down the class's special abilities, XP points to the next level, hit dice, attack bonus (AB), and spell slots.

  5. Write down the saving throws for your race/class combo. Note: a race with a saving throw bonus will decrease your saving throw. Lower is better.
E.g. a level 1 fighter has a Death Ray saving throw of 13. If the character is a dwarf (dwarfs have a +4 to Death Ray saves) then the Death Ray saving throw will be 9.

  6. For level one health, start with the maximum value of your hit dice and add your constitution modifier.

  7. To pick equipment, choose one of the following options:

Write your equipment down in the character sheet's equipment slots. Decent-sized items like weapons and armor take up a slot. Smaller items like torches can fit a stack per slot. If you have any questions, ask the GM. See image for example:

Your character can carry 10 slots without any penalties and may carry up to a maximum of 12 slots. Carrying more than 10 slots reduces your character's movement speed by 10ft.

  8. Look up your chosen weapons in Core Rules: Weapons and record its information.

  9. Calculate and record your armor class

  10. Record your movement speed. Refer to Core Rules: Movement and Encumbrance. Note: Don't bother tracking weight, just refer to the box on your character sheet that tells you if you're heavily-loaded.

  11. Magic users only. Select your spells from Core Rules: Spells. You automatically start with "Read Magic" and "Detect Magic", select 2 more.

  12. Save your character by selecting the "Download" button on your character sheet. If you ever mess anything up, you can load this file to restore your character.
